Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The month of March brings us once again to the glorious celebration of the greatest event in the history of mankind. The crucifixion and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The reality of everything we have in Christ hinges on this event. Some call it resurrection Sunday, some Easter, and there are even some who do not believe that it ever happened.
I remember the account of an atheist giving a speech to a group of people about why he didn't believe in the existence of God. The atheist finished speaking and asked if anyone had any questions. An older gentlemen stood up. He was eating an apple. He just finished chewing a piece of the apple and then he asked the atheist this question. "Sir, this apple that I am eating, is it a sweet apple or a sour apple?" The atheist, surprised by the question, responded by saying,"Sir, I can only answer that question if I taste the apple." The older gentlemen then responded," And that is the only way you will ever come to know Jesus. You have to taste and then you will see that the Lord is good!" The atheist was left speechless.
As we celebrate the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus this month may we also be very mindful that there is another very important event on God's calendar. The Return of Christ!!! Jesus is coming back for those who belong to Him. I get very excited when I think about these things! Jesus died for us in order for us to be saved and Jesus is coming back for us so that we may rule and reign with Him.
In light of these great truths I see the hand of God opening a great and effectual door for the church to share the gospel of Christ. Easter is just such a door. Easter is a time when so many begin to think about God. They hear about Christ. About His cross, His empty tomb, His plan of salvation. And what an opportunity for the church to reap a great harvest of souls as we prayerfully reach out in God's love to those in our families, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and strangers who God will inevitably bring into our lives.
I pray the Lord will help us to so share Christ that people will want to taste of Him. And when they do they will know just how wonderful and loving and merciful and good that He is. It is an honor to be your pastor. Carol and I both thank you for your love and prayers.
Celebrate Easter by Sharing Christ
